The Department of Mathematics at Aarhus University seeks candidates, characterized by excellence and vision in their research, for a Professor position in Mathematics.

Aarhus University is an international top-100 University with its campus located centrally within the coastal city of Aarhus, Denmark. The position is available from 1 November 2022.

In 2019 the Department of Mathematics underwent a strategy review, resulting in 10 specific goals being set for the period 2020—2025. See https://math.au.dk/en/about/strategy/. The purpose of this call is to add a new professor to the Mathematics group that can contribute to a stimulating environment, helping the department meet its strategic goals by the year 2025.

The Department of Mathematics currently employs 34 permanent scientific staff members in the traditional mathematical disciplines and stochastics. The Department is responsible for eight study programs: Bachelor and Master programs in Mathematics, Mathematics-Economics, and Data Science, as well as a Master programs in Statistics and Science Studies. The Department has a strong international profile in traditional areas of mathematics, and has close research ties to two interdisciplinary centers: “Aarhus University Centre for Digitalisation, Big Data and Data Analytics” (DIGIT), based at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, as well as “Bioinformatics Research Centre” (BiRC), based at the Faculty of Natural Sciences.

For the open position, we search for a person broadly within Mathematics. We encourage all applicants to apply. The successful candidate is expected to:
  • build and sustain an active research group around her/his research area through external funding.
  • through her/his research contributions and activities, raise the international profile of the Department of Mathematics.
  • contribute to teaching and supervision at all levels at the department.
  • take on responsibility within the department through committee work.

What the Department of Mathematics, the city of Aarhus as well as Denmark can offer the successful candidate:
