Research Scientist
The Department of Mathematics at MIT is seeking two Research Scientist,
Level 1 positions to act as high-level contributors to research
in number theory, algebraic geometry, and related fields under the direction of
Principal Investigator (PI) Prof. Bjorn Poonen, who is responsible for position
funding.
Duties include conducting research in number theory,
algebraic geometry, and related fields, possibly including algorithmic aspects,
in collaboration with Bjorn Poonen; publishing research papers devoted to these
subjects, first on arXiv and then in journals; participating in and assisting
in organizing local seminars; guiding undergraduate research projects;
participating in and supporting workshops and meetings; and other duties
assigned by the PI.
Required Qualifications: PhD in mathematics or related field, received by employment start date. Minimum 2 years of research experience in number theory, algebraic geometry, or related fields (research done while graduate student counts toward the 2 years). Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background check. Applicants must include: CV, Research Statement, and a minimum of 3 letters of recommendation.
Pay range: $72K - $92K

The pay offered to a selected candidate during hiring will be based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience and education/training, internal peer equity, and applicable legal requirements. This pay range represents base pay only and does not include any other benefits or compensation.
