Position Description

University of Michigan – Department of Mathematics

The Mathematics Department and the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) at the University of Michigan seek outstanding scholars for new tenure-track assistant professor faculty positions as part of the Michigan Program for Advancing Cultural Transformation (M-PACT). This hiring program, a federally funded, university-wide faculty initiative, aims to recruit faculty with a demonstrated and ongoing record of driving  transformative research, life-changing teaching, and accessible clinical care that will support the health of all, including communities who have been underserved. By partnering with faculty throughout their careers, M-PACT strengthens the capacity of those who serve as catalysts for change in academic and healthcare environments via their scholarship, teaching, and/or service activities with research interests suitable for funding by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This call is part of a broader university effort to enhance inclusive excellence across the biomedical and health sciences community. This is a full-time, university year appointment with an anticipated start date of August 25, 2027.

Successful candidates can come from any area of pure and applied mathematics. Candidates should hold a PhD in mathematics or a related field and show outstanding promise and accomplishments in research, teaching, and leadership.

Application materials are due Monday, October 12, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET (reference letters will be accepted until October 26, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ET). Please see the M-PACT website for program details, application components, eligibility criteria, and application portal.  Applicants for LSA departments can write separate or a combined M-PACT statement and service statement. If a combined statement is written, it must be uploaded for both the M-PACT and service statements.
