The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Mississippi State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Statistics and/or Data Science, with an anticipated start date of August 2026. Strong applicants from all areas of Statistics and Data Science are encouraged to apply; however, the greatest interest is for applicants with expertise in areas closely aligned with computational sciences. These include, but are not limited to, artificial intelligence, biostatistics, data mining, high-dimensional data analysis, machine learning, network science, and computational neuroscience. Mississippi State University is a Land-Grant University and is designated as a “Very High Research Spending and Doctorate Production” Research 1 university by the Carnegie Foundation. The Department offers an M.S. degree in Statistics, a Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences with concentrations in both mathematics and statistics and contributes to Mississippi State University’s undergraduate and graduate programs in Data Science. Opportunities for interdisciplinary research and consulting exist in applied areas such as agricultural sciences, biological sciences, engineering, forestry, geosciences (including remote sensing), and veterinary sciences, among others. Requirements for the position include a doctoral degree, either completed or expected not later than July 2026, in Statistics, Data Science, or a closely related field, demonstrated success in research, and a commitment to effective graduate and undergraduate teaching. Essential duties and responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses, mentoring M.S. and Ph.D. students, and developing a substantial research program in an area of statistics or data science. Additional responsibilities include engaging in departmental, university, and scientific community service activities. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
