Position Description

Overview of the School of Mathematical Sciences

The School of Mathematical Sciences at Nankai University evolved from the Mathematics Department established by Mr. Jiang Lifu in 1920. Over the past century, it has nurtured a group of outstanding talents for the development of modern mathematics in China, with renowned mathematicians such as Mr. Chen Xingshen, Mr. Jiang Zehan, and Mr. Wu Daran serving as exemplary figures.

The Mathematics discipline at Nankai University was selected as one of the first batch of "Double First-Class" construction disciplines and is a national key discipline at the primary level, boasting strong academic strength and achieving significant breakthroughs in the fifth round of discipline evaluation. The School of Mathematical Sciences houses three national key disciplines at the secondary level: Pure Mathematics, Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics, and Applied Mathematics. It holds the doctoral degree authorization in Mathematics at the primary level and operates a postdoctoral research station in Mathematics.

The College currently houses teaching and research institutions such as the Department of Mathematics, the Department of Probability and Statistics, the Department of Information and Data Science, the Department of Applied Mathematics, the Department of Scientific and Engineering Computation, the Department of Mathematical Finance and Actuarial Science, the Division of Advanced Mathematics Teaching, and the Computational Laboratory. The College offers two undergraduate programs: Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, and Information and Computational Science. It has established the National Training Base for Basic Science Research and Teaching, which was originally initiated as a pilot mathematics program advocated by Professor Chen Shengshen. The College recruits and trains graduate students in six secondary disciplines: Pure Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Bioinformatics, and Mathematical Economics. To implement the talent-driven university strategy, accelerate the development of the mathematics discipline, and attract high-level talents from both domestic and international sources, the School of Mathematical Sciences is now recruiting outstanding individuals in the following fields: foundational mathematics, computational mathematics, probability theory and mathematical statistics, applied mathematics, bioinformatics, and mathematical economics.
