Nanyang Technological University, School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences,, Division of Mathematical Sciences
Scholarship Description
The PhD in Mathematical Sciences programme
offered by the Division of Mathematical Sciences at Nanyang Technological
University, Singapore, is a four year program that provides students with a
stimulating environment for conducting original research in mathematical
sciences.
For more information on the degree programme, please see https://www.ntu.edu.sg/spms/about-us/mathematics/grad/phd
A limited number of scholarships covering tuition fees and stipend for the four years of the degree programme is available. Please see https://www.ntu.edu.sg/spms/admissions/grad/scholarships for more information.
Position Title: PhD Fellow in Statistics and Applied
Mathematics
Position Type: PhD
Location: NTU, Singapore
Deadline: The position is open until filled
Research Opportunities in Statistical Learning at the School of Physical and
Mathematical Sciences of NTU Singapore
There will be multiple PhD positions available in 2025 as part of the research group of Dr. Hemant Tyagi at NTU Singapore (in the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences).
The
positions pertain to the research topic "Learning high-dimensional
(networked) dynamical systems" (broadly defined) and there is ample room
for exploring sub-topics depending on the interest of the candidate. The focus
will be on deriving efficient algorithms with provable statistical guarantees,
using tools from: high-dimensional statistics, optimization, probability
theory, approximation theory etc. The positions will be suitable for candidates
with an interest in high-dimensional statistics, probability and optimization.
The duration of the PhD is 4 years.
Requirements
The
starting date will be either in August 2025 or January 2026. In general, it is
good to apply online at least 4 months before the starting month (the earlier
the better). Before applying, you should first email Dr. Tyagi sufficiently in
advance (with your CV) so that there is time to arrange for an interview in
case your profile appears to be a good fit.
Interested
candidates should contact Assoc. Prof. Hemant Tyagi with their CV for
consideration.

Research Opportunities at the School of Physical and
Mathematical Sciences of NTU Singapore
We
are excited to announce multiple research opportunities in applied mathematics
at the level of PhD positions for graduate students and postdoctoral research
fellowships within the framework of a 5-year research grant on Geometric
Optimization and Design in Learning and Robotics. The vacancies are targeted at
applied mathematicians, computational scientists, physicists, and candidates
with expertise in closely related fields who are interested in research at the
interface between geometry, mechanics, materials science, computation, and
control theory.
Applicants for PhD positions are expected to have a strong
background in mathematics with a degree in mathematics or a closely related
field, combined with a passionate interest in the development and application
of advanced mathematical tools to problems in fields such as data science,
robotics, and machine learning. Successful candidates will receive a four-year
grant towards obtaining a PhD in mathematics. Some candidates may need to
provide GRE scores and/or proof of proficiency in English according to NTU
admissions policy. Expected commencement
dates for graduate students are August 2025 and January 2026.
Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in Mathematics/Physics/Computer Science/Statistics or related fields
- Evidence of excellence in at least one of the following areas: analysis, differential geometry, optimization, probability and statistics
- Good
communication skills including fluency in English
Interested candidates should contact Asst. Prof. Cyrus
Mostajeran with their CV for consideration.
