Junior Professor

(W1, tenure track W2) in Mathematics of Machine Learning

This is a junior professorship appointment with a tenure track career path towards a permanent W2 professorship. The position is to be funded by the Tenure Track Program of the German federal and state governments. This call for applications is therefore particularly targeted at early career researchers. We are seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research in the area of mathematics of machine learning. The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date. The research focus shall be on the mathematical-theoretical investigation of machine learning methods, and thereby contribute to the development of novel, more efficient schemes. The profile of the successful applicant shall complement existing strengths within the department and drive new interdisciplinary cooperations. The professorship shall help shape core activities in the field of data science, for example within the recently founded AI-Center and the “JARA Center for Simulation and Data Science.” A track record of successful acquisition of third party funding is required. Adequate participation in the teaching obligations of the Department of Mathematics is part of the duties.

You should have a completed university degree and a special aptitude for scientific work which is generally verified by means of an outstanding doctorate. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching. German is not necessary to begin but will be expected as a teaching language within the first 5 years.
