The Centre for Quantum Mathematics (QM) at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Southern Denmark  (SDU) invites applications for a number of one to two year positions as postdoctoral fellow with emphasis on either pure mathematics with relations to quantum theory or theoretical physics. 

There are several funding sources available at the centre both from European and Danish sources including the EU Horizon-DIGITAL-programme for the projects “Scalable Continuous Variable Cluster State Quantum Technologies (CLUSTEC)” & “Danish Quantum Communication Infrastructure (QCI.dk)” – both with the PI Professor Jørgen Ellegaard Andersen. 

The targeted starting date of the positions are 1 August 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter. Application deadline: 1 December 2023.

The QM centre is located at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Faculty of Science on the international campus in Odense, Denmark. QM is newly established with the ambition to create a highly international and interdisciplinary group within a broad spectrum of pure mathematics and mathematical physics. Odense is a fast-growing international community with an open Scandinavian culture, affordable housing and living costs.

The ideal candidates should have a strong research background in pure mathematics or theoretical physics, e.g. algebra, algebraic geometry, differential geometry, algebraic topology, complex geometry, quantum topology, geometric analysis, operator algebra, number theory, quantum field theory, string theory or mathematical physics, and should also have interests in pursuing the various applications in quantum computing and quantum engineering of this project. The successful candidates will primarily participate in the aforementioned CLUSTEC and QCI.dk research projects, and work with an international consortium of quantum technologists, photonic integrators, mathematicians, computer scientists and quantum information theorists towards building scalable quantum computing and quantum communication networks. 

Job description / requirements
A successful candidate will drive internationally competitive research and collaborate with the world community in the field. The candidate is expected to contribute to QM’s excellent research and teaching environment. The candidate must have a PhD degree in mathematics or theoretical physics. Furthermore the candidate must have an emerging research track in the field. We are seeking highly motivated candidates, who work and communicate well in an international team. The candidates must be able to carry out independent and rigorous work at top international level.
