Sam Houston State University is a comprehensive public institution of higher education located in historic Huntsville, 60 miles north of Houston. The University has an enrollment of about 21,000 students. In 2022, SHSU received new designations as a High Research Activity Institution (R2 status) by the Carnegie Commission. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Sam Houston State University seeks applications for Visiting Assistant Professor positions in Mathematics, to begin in the Fall 2025 semester. Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in Mathematics. These positions carry a teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester. Successful candidates will have a strong commitment to quality teaching and an active research agenda. Applicants conducting research in any area of mathematics are encouraged to apply. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Our department offers BA, BS, MA and MS degrees in Mathematics, a BS degree in Data Science, and MS degrees in Statistics, along with several minors at the undergraduate level. Members of active research groups in the department consist of tenured and tenure-track faculty, visitors, and graduate students. The department’s faculty is excited about undergraduate research and developing innovative teaching methods that encourage students to be actively engaged in the study of mathematics.
