The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Swarthmore College invites applications for two 3-year Visiting Assistant Professor positions beginning Fall 2024. We seek candidates with an interest and demonstrated ability to teach at both the introductory and advanced undergraduate level, in a manner that speaks to and motivates undergraduates from diverse backgrounds. Full consideration will be given to candidates who satisfy at least one of the following qualifications: experience teaching introductory statistics; extensive experience fostering DEI within mathematics and/or statistics; a research area in geometry or topology.

Applications should include:

(1) a cover letter that describes a) how you satisfy at least one of the above-listed qualifications, b) how you would thrive at an undergraduate-only institution and c) how this position will contribute to your professional trajectory.

(2) a course list that includes a) a description of the courses in our curriculum that you are particularly enthusiastic to teach and b) a list of the courses for which you have experience in teaching (specifying whether you served as a teaching assistant or as the instructor of record).

(3) a curriculum vitae.

(4) a teaching statement that specifies your philosophy, policies, and practices that support student success and encourage the inclusion of students from underrepresented groups in the field.

(5) a research statement.

(6) three letters of recommendation, including at least one that addresses teaching beyond what may be found in student evaluations.
