Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for the department, managing resources and the budget to ensure long-term stability.
- Oversee personnel matters, including recruiting, evaluating, and mentoring faculty and staff.
- Guide curriculum development, class scheduling, and the administration of undergraduate and graduate programs, fostering innovation across all offerings.
- Support and advance faculty excellence in teaching, research, and service, including mentoring junior colleagues.
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and pursue growth opportunities in areas of research aligned with CST’s mission.
- Build partnerships with academic, professional, and industry organizations to strengthen teaching, research, outreach, and fundraising efforts.
- Cultivate a collegial, inclusive departmental climate grounded in transparent communication, shared governance, and community support.
- Represent the department to internal and external stakeholders while contributing actively to the college leadership team.
Qualifications
Required:
- Must hold a doctoral-level degree (PhD, DPhil, DSc) in mathematics or closely related field.
- Demonstrated excellence in an established program of research and scholarly activities, commensurate with appointment at the rank of Full Professor.
- Demonstrated experience in academic leadership, with evidence of successfully addressing complex organizational challenges.
- Evidence of clear commitment to fostering evidence-based teaching, best-practice mentoring, and engaged learning opportunities.
- Commitment to creating inclusive, accessible spaces for all students.
Preferred:
- Experience coordinating with administration, staff, students, and faculty to accomplish departmental, college, and institutional goals.
- Administrative experience that includes maintaining significant budgets and awards, and the ability to work successfully with professional budget staff.
- A record of leadership in initiatives and activities promoting student success, especially those with strong implications for career opportunities or career outcomes.
