The Department of Mathematics at The University of Arizona invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in analysis, broadly construed.The School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Arizona encompasses the Department of Mathematics (where faculty have their primary appointments) as well as the Graduate Interdisciplinary Programs (GIDPs) in Statistics and Data Science and in Applied Mathematics. The Department offers doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s programs in Mathematics with several emphases ranging across core mathematics, applied, mathematics, statistics and data science, and math education. The GIDPs offer interdisciplinary PhD programs and support research with faculty members from over 20 departments on campus.
The University of Arizona is the flagship campus of Arizona’s university system, it is in the “Highest Research Activity” (R1) category of the Carnegie classification, and it is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU). Duties & Responsibilities:
Faculty members are expected to participate in both undergraduate and graduate education (including teaching core graduate courses in the PhD program in Mathematics), to advise and mentor students, and to lead students to academic success, including those from underrepresented backgrounds. The normal teaching load for research active faculty is nine units for the academic year (typically three one-semester courses each year).
Faculty members will maintain active research programs, publish their work in highly regarded journals, and seek external funding to support the department’s research and academic missions.
Faculty members will also participate in outreach and contribute to departmental, college, and university service. In these and other ways, faculty members will help to develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement, increasing diversity, and expanding collaborations with community and business partners.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates are expected to have a PhD by the time of appointment, to have an excellent research record and potential commensurate with their career stage, and to have a strong commitment to teaching, outreach, and inclusive excellence.
