A PhD or equivalent in mathematics or a related discipline is required; postdoctoral experience is normally expected.

The successful applicant will have outstanding mathematical research potential, demonstrated through a strong academic record, the research statement accompanying the application, and strong endorsements from respected referees.

Evidence of high achievement and excellent potential in teaching is also required.

The priority research areas are Fluid Dynamics and Scientific Computing, and the intersection of these areas. Exceptional candidates from existing or emerging areas of research excellence in the department may also be considered. Appointment at a higher rank may be considered for an applicant with exceptional qualifications. Joint appointments with other UBC departments may be possible.

The position entails developing and maintaining an innovative, externally funded research program in an area of interest to current faculty, teaching effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervising graduate students, interacting with related groups in the Department, and supporting the Department's academic mission through service. The salary will be commensurate with experience and research record.
