The Department of Mathematics at the University of Connecticut, Stamford, invites applications for a non-tenure track position at the Visiting Assistant Professor level, beginning Fall 2019. The candidate will provide undergraduate teaching and will also serve as the Director of the Math Resource Center.

The successful candidate will be expected to share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate level (including course coordination and preparation/revision of course materials); participate in university or external professional development programs, seminars, and conferences; apply for internal or external grants supportive of pedagogical activities; broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their research, teaching, and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience; and provide leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests. Responsibilities may include advising undergraduate students and helping to develop retention strategies for students.


A Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in mathematics; a record of outstanding teaching of introductory undergraduate courses; experience with educational technologies like smart boards, clickers, online homework systems or message boards; an interest in mathematics education; and a deep commitment to promoting diversity through their academic and research programs. The Director of the Math Resource Center must have demonstrated ability to conduct statistical data analysis.


A record of effective teaching through innovative classroom strategies; coordinating multi-section courses; experience with grant applications for pedagogical activities; familiarity with Course Management Systems, advising students in lower-level math courses and research activity that strengthens the departments teaching mission and involvement in online or flipped courses.


This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position at the Stamford campus for a one year contract. The normal teaching load for this position is seven three-credit courses per year, or the equivalent. The position has an anticipated start date of August 23, 2019. The successful candidate’s academic appointment will be at the Stamford campus. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
