The Department of Mathematics ( at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a position as a Postdoctoral Scholar under the direction of Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator (PI) Beren Sanders.We are seeking a candidate with a demonstrated record of published research (including Ph.D. thesis) whose research interests align with those of Professor Sanders. Broadly, these include the following areas: triangulated categories and abstract homotopy theory; tensor triangular geometry; equivariant, chromatic, and motivic homotopy theory; and applications of triangulated categories in representation theory and algebraic geometry. The selected candidate will conduct research in one or more of the above fields and will collaborate with PI Sanders, other faculty members, and graduate students. Highly motivated candidates who possess strong communication skills and who work well both independently and collaboratively are strongly encouraged to apply.

RANK: Postdoctoral Scholar

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: • PhD or equivalent foreign degree in Mathematics or related field (it is expected that the degree will be completed by June 30, 2018). • Research experience in one of the following areas: triangulated categories and abstract homotopy theory; tensor triangular geometry; equivariant, chromatic, and motivic homotopy theory; applications of triangulated categories in representation theory and algebraic geometry; or a related area of study.

POSITION AVAILABLE: July 1, 2018. Degree requirement must be met by June 30, 2018 for employment effective July1, 2018.

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of reappointment for a second and final year. Annual reappointment is contingent upon positive performance review and availability of funding. For appointments within the University of California, a total duration of an individual’s postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including Postdoctoral service at other institutions. Under certain circumstances, a sixth year may be considered.
