Position Description

We aim to fill two three-year postdoctoral positions for research on higher structures and categorification in the context of quantum topology in the research groups of Tobias Dyckerhoff and Paul Wedrich as part of the project “Stable Categorification”. Desirable relevant expertise and interests include: higher algebra, stable ∞-categories, (∞, n)-categories, extended topological quantum field theories, knot homology theories, categorified quantum groups/KLR algebras, and related topics in algebraic and symplectic geometry. The project is part of an interdisciplinary collaboration between mathematicians and physicists aiming to develop novel algebraic and geometric structures by extracting exact information from physical theories. Active participation in this collaboration is expected.

We especially encourage interested female scientists to apply. In addition to university-wide measures improving work-life balance, the cluster includes a variety of equal opportunity initiatives.

Research associates will be expected to primarily conduct research, as well as to actively participate in the scientific events of the cluster and in their organisation. The position does not involve teaching duties but there will be opportunities to teach based on voluntary commitment.

Postdoctoral research associates will become members of the Quantum Universe Research School (QURS), which provides academic and key skills training, as well as career planning support. In addition, they will receive individual budgets to facilitate the attendance of summer schools and conferences, and to support other educational measures. Additional travel money for project-specific duties will be provided by the hosting research groups. Postdoctoral research associates may participate in the supervision of doctoral researchers, teaching at the University, and in the organization of the Cluster via an early career council.
