About This Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral research fellow to focus their efforts on developing their expertise and emerging research profile in their discipline. At this level it is expected that the incumbent will contribute to service and engagement roles and activities.

 Key responsibilities include:  

1. Research

  • Conduct research and publish scholarly papers in the area agreed with the supervisor.
  • Work with colleagues and postgraduates in the development of joint research projects.
  • Communicate research outcomes at conferences and seminars.
  • Participate in the activities of the research group.

2. Supervision and Researcher Development

  • Contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students (as appropriate).

3. Citizenship and Service

  • Perform a range of administrative functions in the School.
  • Contribute to the processes that enable the academic team to manage the work of the School, including participation in School decision-making.
  • Foster the School’s relations with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.
  • Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor.

About the School of Mathematics and Physics

The School of Mathematics and Physics is a School within the Faculty of Science at the University of Queensland. The Discipline of Mathematics is located in the School of Mathematics and Physics. It is the leading provider of tertiary mathematics education in Queensland. Undergraduate programs offered are BMath, BSc, BA (each with an Honours year) and BAdvSci; Coursework degrees (MSc, MFinMath, MDataSc) and research degrees (MPhil and PhD) are offered at postgraduate level.

The Discipline is internationally recognised for its research excellence and hosts a number of first class research centres. Research is carried out at the cutting edge across a broad spectrum of areas in Mathematics and Statistics.

The position is based at the St Lucia campus of The University of Queensland, one of the most spacious and attractive university campuses in Australia. The campus is centrally located near major public transport routes.

About You

Essential

  • PhD in mathematics or a related discipline (at the time of commencement of the position)
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out high-quality research in geometry
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Highly developed interpersonal and written communication skills

Desirable

  • Proven track record of publication in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals
  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following areas of research: geometric partial differential equations, Lie groups and Lie algebras, representation theory

 

What We Can Offer 

This is a full-time, 100% FTE, fixed-term position for up to two years at Academic Level A.

The full-time-equivalent base salary will be in the range of AUD$72,144 - $96,530 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range of AUD$84,408 - $112,940 per annum.  

The following flexible employment options may be available for this role:  part-time; some working from home; variable start or finish times.
