The Department of Mathematics at University of Wisconsin-Madison is creating a new Undergraduate
Research Lab and looking for a passionate and energetic Associate
Director of Undergraduate Research! In collaboration with the faculty
director, this new role will be responsible for overseeing and
developing undergraduate research projects in Mathematics, mentoring
student research teams in achieving research goals, and will help to
build the Undergraduate Research Lab from the ground up. Besides these
responsibilities, the new Associate Director of Undergraduate Research
will also teach undergraduate mathematics courses for the department.
Position Description:
The Associate Director for Undergraduate Research will play a pivotal role in fostering and developing the undergraduate research program. Since this is a new research laboratory, the successful applicant will have the unique opportunity of helping to develop such a program from the ground up. Duties will include activities such as: oversight of research operations within the lab, mentoring at least one research project team per year, organizing research teams and ensuring deadlines are met, organizing annual research showcase, assist with applications for extramural funding to support the program. The 9-month position also carries a teaching load of 4-5 courses per academic year.
Required Qualifications:
PhD in Mathematics or related field Minimum 2 years teaching at college level Minimum 2 semesters or summers experience with supervision or mentorship of undergraduate research Demonstrated innovation and excellence in teaching undergraduate students Documented interested in undergraduate research Excellent communication and organizational skills
