Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education

Position: A tenure-track faculty position (9-month) as Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics beginning August 16, 2022. Responsibilities of Position: Maintain a vigorous research program and a record of excellent teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The expected teaching load is two classes per semester. Teaching responsibilities include but are not limited to content courses for secondary pre-service teachers.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. or equivalent in Mathematics Education, or related field, and a Masters or equivalent in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or related field, are required at the time of the appointment. A clearly identified mathematics education research agenda and a clear potential for both external funding and scholarship to complement or expand existing expertise in the department. Applicants must have experience teaching mathematics, mathematics education, or a related discipline, as well as experience with working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or the commitment to do so. Preference will be given to applicants with research expertise in one of the following: K-16 professional development in mathematics, or mathematics teaching and learning at the elementary, secondary, or undergraduate level. Preference will also be given to applicants with interest in collaborating on currently funded mathematics education research projects. The Department: The Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics contains 27 tenure-track and 20 non-tenure-track faculty, teaching over 30,000 student credit hours per year. The Department is a member of the Association for Women in Mathematics and a Silver member of the Math Alliance. Among its key current objectives is the improvement of student outcomes in our lower level courses, and the continued strengthening of our department’s track in secondary teacher education preparation and mathematics education outreach initiatives. We seek ambitious faculty members to help grow and strengthen the department by expanding teaching, research, and grant activity.
