Rank will be assigned to the successful candidate commensurate with their experience. The position carries a teaching load of 3 -2 courses per academic year. Load may be reduced to account for administrative and/or program development responsibilities. Our undergraduate courses range in size from 15 to 40 students, enabling engaged, active learning, and we strive to create an inclusive community that inspires and encourages collaboration. This position offers opportunities to provide intellectual and administrative leadership for the Department’s Program of Calculus, the primary entry point to the mathematics curriculum. The Department and the University are currently in the process of re-conceptualizing this key aspect of undergraduate mathematics education. The successful candidate would contribute significantly to defining and implementing the detailed vision for this reform effort. We seek a colleague who has had experience running or creating a program of this nature, with background in supporting a diverse population of talented students in achieving academic success. The successful candidate will demonstrate an outstanding teaching record as well as evidence of good mentoring, organizational, and administrative skills. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue a personal trajectory of scholarship appropriate to their responsibilities and interests, which might include traditional publications as well as artifacts of the scholarship of practice. Practice faculty members are mentored and reviewed regularly and are eligible for promotion. Qualifications Applicants should have an earned doctorate in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field and a demonstrated commitment to teaching and program development. Applicants for the position at a senior level should have an established track record of leadership in equity-focused work in undergraduate math education. Applicants for the position at a junior level should have experience working within and helping to shape the activities of a program with equity goals.

Application Instructions Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a teaching statement, a teaching portfolio, and three letters of recommendation. The teaching statement should convey the candidate’s teaching philosophy and practices. In addition, it should outline the candidate’s ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and to potentially serve as a mentor for students from traditionally under-represented groups. The teaching portfolio should illustrate previous experience in teaching, course, and program development. Please include summaries of recent student evaluations (at most 5 pages) if available. Candidates should be prepared to provide full teaching evaluations upon request. All letters of recommendation should address the candidate’s qualifications as a teacher and their ability to play a leadership role in our efforts to improve the Department’s Program of Calculus. Reference letter writers will be asked to submit their letters online through Mathjobs. Applications will be reviewed beginning December 01, 2022 and will continue until the position is filled.
