Washington & Jefferson
College (“W&J”) invites applications for the position of Instructor of
Mathematics, beginning Fall 2022. As a liberal arts college, W&J believes that students learn best in a supportive and inclusive environment and that they should be encouraged to make connections across their courses of study. Interdisciplinary activities by students and faculty alike are encouraged, and many students pursue dual majors, international experiences, or independent study. The Department of Mathematics fosters a strong undergraduate program that produces an average of nine majors and eight minors a year. We are passionate about teaching and active in scholarship. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at the 100- and 200-levels of the undergraduate mathematics curriculum. There may be occasional opportunities to teach courses at higher levels. The standard teaching load is six courses per academic year. The candidate will also have service expectations within and outside of the Department. We seek applicants who will teach and encourage students from diverse backgrounds, including first-generation college students, international students, students with varying mathematical preparation, and students from groups that are underrepresented in mathematics. Requirements for the position:
Applicants should submit a letter of interest, three letters of
recommendation, a graduate transcript, a curriculum vitae, and a statement
about teaching at an undergraduate liberal arts college. Application materials
should explain the candidate’s ideas and experience regarding support of
students from underrepresented groups. At least two letters of recommendation
should specifically address teaching experience. All materials should be
uploaded to MathJobs.org. To ensure full consideration, applications should be submitted by December 1, 2021. |
