The School of Mathematics and Data Sciences (SMDS) at West Virginia University (WVU) invites applications for two tenure-track, benefits eligible, nine-month positions in Statistics at the rank of assistant professor starting August 2022. The teaching load is two courses per semester.

Statistics currently offers an undergraduate minor and a graduate certificate. The SMDS is in a phase of expansion, and the restart of an M.S. in Statistics is a priority. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Statistics or a closely related field; demonstrate a potential for excellence in teaching to support existing course offerings as well as our planned growth for course offerings at the M.S. level; and demonstrate an active research agenda with the potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals and obtain research funding.

The newly formed SMDS is in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences (ECAS). Statistics is one of the four academic units housed in the SMDS. The other three units are Data Sciences, The Institute of Math Learning, and Mathematics. All areas of statistics research are of interest for this position. The successful candidate’s research agenda could emphasize theoretical or applied work. Statistics faculty at WVU have successfully partnered on funded research with faculty in the areas of agriculture, engineering sciences, forensic sciences, geography, health sciences, natural resources, and physics. Research collaborations within the SMDS, within ECAS, or across the array of colleges at WVU is encouraged.

WVU is a R1 research land grant university located within 90 minutes of Pittsburgh and 3.5 hours from the Washington/Baltimore area.
