Assistant Professor
Statistics

Xavier University is part of the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts and is strongly committed to enhancing equity, inclusion, and diversity. These values are central to our mission. We strive for a climate of respect and inclusiveness that welcomes and supports members from diverse backgrounds and life experiences, is committed unreservedly to open and free inquiry, and deliberately seeks out multiple perspectives.

The Department of Mathematics invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in the area of Statistics, starting in Fall 2024. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Statistics, or a related field such as Biostatistics, Data Science, Actuarial Science, or Mathematics with an emphasis in Statistics, by August 2024.

Our department seeks to build a community that champions the mathematician in everyone. We are home to undergraduate degree programs in mathematics, actuarial science, and mathematics education and offer minors in mathematics, statistics, and applied mathematics. We also collaborate in an interdisciplinary honors program in data science. Class sizes are kept small to promote close faculty-student interaction for discussion, exploration and thought. A successful candidate will be expected to utilize innovative and effective approaches in the teaching of statistics to both majors and non-majors alike.

We seek colleagues committed to active scholarship in a liberal arts tradition. Because most of our majors conduct undergraduate research, candidates who have enthusiasm for advancing the culture of inquiry within our student body are encouraged to apply. Tenure-track faculty teach three courses each semester, maintain a productive research agenda, and engage in service that is consistent with our purpose to educate students whose lives will be lived for others. Xavier has a strong commitment to diversity and seeks a broad spectrum of candidates who are equally committed to fostering and engaging with a diversity of ideas and experiences and to creating an inclusive environment in the classroom and university setting.

Xavier’s urban location in Cincinnati allows faculty to work with community partners to develop engaged learning and internship opportunities. Xavier is a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities as well as the Big East.

A complete application includes:

 • cover letter;
 • curriculum vitae;
 • statement of teaching experience and philosophy;
 • statement of research achievements and goals;
