Position Description

Successful applicants will be supervised by Roy Lederman and affiliated with the Department of Statistics and Data Science, the Department of Applied Mathematics, and the Institute of Quantitative Biology (QBio). Research opportunities are available in the mathematics of data science and machine learning, inverse problems in biology and imaging (such as cryo-Electron Microscopy (cryo-EM)), and numerical and computational mathematics. Collaboration with additional members of the Department of Statistics and Data Science, the Department of Applied Mathematics, the Department of Mathematics, QBio, the Institute for Foundations of Data Science (FDS), and/or the Wu Tsai Institute (WTI), is encouraged.

Areas of particular interest include:

* Methods for analyzing conformational heterogeneity in cryo-EM

* Revisiting statistical aspects of traditional algorithms and emerging machine learning algorithms for modeling physical systems, in particular questions arising in cryo-EM

* Combining Molecular Dynamics (or related methods, including machine learning methods) with cryo-EM

* Automating the discovery of numerical algorithms, emphasizing the discovery of exploitable structures in linear algebra problems

Skills and Qualifications:

* Originality, independence, leadership, collegiality, and genuine passion for science.

* Ph.D. (or expected Ph.D.) in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related area.
