The Optimization and Analytics group at Ford Research and Advanced Engineering is looking for a motivated and talented individual with a Ph.D. in operations research, applied mathematics, or a related field to join the IMA as an Industrial Postdoctoral Fellow. These fellowships are designed to prepare mathematical scientists for research careers in industry or involving industrial interaction. IMA Industrial Postdoctoral Fellowships run two years starting August 29, 2014. They are funded jointly by the IMA and an industrial sponsor, and holders devote 50% of their time to working with industrial scientists and the other half on a combination of their own research and the IMA activities. Industrial Postdoctoral Fellows receive a salary of $58,000 annually and a travel allowance.
Ford’s Optimization and Analytics group focuses on developing mathematical optimization models for use in a variety of applications throughout various divisions of the company from sales & marketing to sustainability to product development. Understanding business needs is a critical aspect of the work in order to translate those needs into useful and usable analytical tools. Candidates should have expertise in linear and mixed-integer programming and a strong interest in designing, developing, and delivering optimization systems that can be used independently by internal business partners. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in order to present and publish their work when appropriate.
Requirements include, but are not limited to:

• Ability to adapt to a dynamic working environment and work within a diverse team Other desirable skills include:
• Interest and experience in web technologies
• Knowledge of database integration and design
The research statement you submit is an important part of the application and it is very possible that the research statement you use for other postdoctoral applications will need to be augmented for this application. Your statement should not only outline your research interests and goals, but should also indicate why the IMA fellowship would allow you to pursue these interests and goals.
