The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at Arizona State University invites applications for up to four full-time, benefits-eligible lecturer positions in mathematics and/or statistics beginning August 16, 2017. Subsequent academic year renewals (Aug. 16 – May 15) are possible contingent upon performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the unit.
Applicants are required to have a Master’s degree in mathematics or statistics, or a closely related field. Candidates must also have demonstrated potential for excellence in classroom and on-line instruction. Preferred qualifications include a documented record of excellence in classroom and on-line instruction, as well as demonstrated success meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities. Experience in teaching beginning courses in business mathematics and engineering mathematics both in classroom and on-line formats is especially desirable. In addition to instruction, the successful candidates will be expected to participate in appropriate professional service, which may include course coordination in multi-section classes.
The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences currently has 53 full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members and approximately 48 lecturers, senior lecturers and principal lecturers. The School offers bachelors, masters, and Ph.D. programs in applied mathematics, mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics as well as an undergraduate degree program in actuarial science. The School has a sizable service teaching load that serves all majors on campus. Excellent computing resources are available in the School that include individual faculty workstations as well as access to the University's central computing facilities and the High Performance Computing Initiative. The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences has a strongly interdisciplinary research and instruction profile that includes numerous collaborations inside and outside the university, such as in the social sciences, education, physical sciences, engineering, biological sciences, medicine, and environmental sciences.
The Tempe campus of Arizona State University has approximately 59,000 students. It is located in the rapidly growing metropolitan Phoenix area, which provides a wide variety of recreational and cultural opportunities. The surrounding countryside is attractive to outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, biking, skiing, and other activities in the exquisite Arizona canyon lands and mountainous terrain.
