The Department of Mathematics at Florida State University is now accepting applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship position in pure mathematics, starting in August 2018. The target area is Algebra. Exceptionally qualified candidates in other areas of pure mathematics may also be considered.

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in mathematics or a closely related field, a strong research record and potential to obtain external funding, and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Other desirable qualifications include postdoctoral experience and the ability to develop collaborations both within and outside the university.

Applications should include a cover letter, a standard AMS cover sheet, a current vitae, a description of current and planned research, and a statement of teaching philosophy. They should be submitted electronically through www.mathjobs.org. Additionally, candidates should arrange to have four letters of recommendation (at least one of the letters must address the applicant's teaching capability) uploaded directly by their reference writers to mathjobs.org.
