The Université catholique de Louvain invites applications for a tenure track or tenured full time position in Mathematical analysis

UCL is a comprehensive university and this position offers the opportunity for cross-disciplinary research. The Faculty of Sciences and the Institut de Recherche en Mathématique et Physique provide a varied and stimulating teaching framework and an ambitious, dynamic research environment that is rich in international collaboration. The Louvain-la-Neuve town-campus offers a unique and modern work and living environment in an unspoilt natural setting which is particularly well connected at the heart of Europe.

The successful candidate will be fully involved in teaching courses in the Bachelor in Mathematics programme and more specialised courses in the Master in Mathematics. The choice of specialised courses will be made in consultation with those responsible for the Bachelor in Mathematics and Master in Mathematics programmes and will depend on the more specific competences of the person selected. Given the present structure of the Master in Mathematics programme there is the possibility of involvement in teaching measure theory, functional analysis, analysis of differential equations and partial differential equations, and calculus of variations. Some teaching tasks may be modified depending on the specific competences of the person selected. Like other colleagues in the School of Mathematics, the successful candidate will also be involved in service classes, i.e., foundation courses in mathematics in the Faculty of Sciences as well as outside the Faculty or the science and technology sector. This element of teaching will become more precisely defined and will develop depending on the needs of the School of Mathematics.

The successful candidate will carry out research of an international standard in the field of mathematical analysis through the study of problems that may result from various branches of mathematics or other scientific disciplines, and in doing so will develop new  mathematical tools and methods. He or she will interact fully with the current research team and will add to it with new expertise, while at the same time strengthening the cohesion of the whole of the Institut de Recherche en Mathématique et Physique (Research Institute in Mathematics and Physics). For information, the current fields of activity include, for example, the study of partial differential equations and of Sobolev spaces (

The deadline for applications is November 15, 2017 at 12h ( The full announcement is available at
