Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in the Department of Mathematics starting in August 2018. 

The Department currently runs BA and BS programs in Mathematics, a BA program in Adolescence Education – Mathematics Teacher, and BS programs in Actuarial and Financial Mathematics; co-sponsors with other Brooklyn College departments a BS program in Computational Mathematics and two MA programs in Mathematical Education; and participates in three PhD Programs (Mathematics, Physics, and Urban Education) at the CUNY Graduate Center, where faculty may apply for joint appointments.  

The department seeks a candidate to strengthen one of the four bachelor degree programs: the Actuarial, Financial, and Computational Mathematics programs and the Adolescence Education program for 7-12 math teachers. Responsibilities include: 
  • Commitment to excellence in research and teaching.
  • Student advisement and research mentoring.
  • Service to the Department, the College, and the wider community. In, particular, serving on committees and contributing to department administrative and supervisory tasks.

  • PhD in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics from an accredited institution.
  • The candidate must have an active record of research.
  • Some research and teaching experience after obtaining the doctorate is desirable. 
  • Preference will be given to candidates having experience with actuarial exams, or research specialty in numerical analysis, or experience in teacher training. 
Salary commensurate with experience and credentials. All appointments are subject to financial availability.
