Summary of Position

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics (http://www.uncw.edu/math) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in statistics at the assistant professor level starting August 2018. The chosen candidates will be expected to excel in teaching introductory and advanced statistics courses and engage students in research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, expectations for the positions include maintaining a strong research program and providing service to the department and university. The department offers undergraduate programs in mathematics and statistics, and graduate programs in mathematics, statistics, and data science.

Minimum Requirements

A doctoral degree in statistics or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

The search is open to all areas of statistics and related fields. Applicants with methodological research expertise in the areas of actuarial science, applied probability, Bayesian statistics, spatial-temporal models, statistical machine learning, and stochastic process are encouraged to apply. Qualifications also include the potential to work with existing faculty on research.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers programs leading to undergraduate degrees in mathematics, statistics, and teacher licensure, as well as a graduate degree in mathematics, a graduate certificate in applied statistics, and a joint graduate degree in data science with the computer science department. The department consists of 28 faculty members, approximately 20 graduate students/teaching assistants and approximately 130 majors. (http://www.uncw.edu/math).
