Postdoctoral Position in theory and practice of high-dimensional data analysis

We invite applications for two or more postdoctoral fellowships in the Department of Mathematics at Simon Fraser University and the Department of Mathematics at The University of British Columbia. These positions are part of a collaborative research group on "Low-dimensional structure in high-dimensional data analysis: connecting theory and practice", funded by PIMS (The Pacific Institute of Mathematical Sciences). The candidate will work closely with one or more of the PIs of the project: Ben Adcock, Sasha Aravkin, Roger Donaldson, Michael Friedlander, Yaniv Plan, and Ozgur Yilmaz.

The broad area of this position is methods for high-dimensional data analysis. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in one or more of: machine and deep learning, sparse approximation, compressed sensing, random matrix theory, and optimization. Additional experience in related areas is useful. The duration of the position is one year, with the possibility for renewal for a second year subject to satisfactory performance. The salary will be at a competitive level and will be augmented with funding for travel. Fellows will be required to teach one undergraduate course per year.

Applications should be submitted through MathJobs. Applications must consist of a CV, a research statement, and three recommendation letters with one addressing the candidate's teaching experience. The application deadline is January 3rd, 2018. Applications received after this date cannot be guaranteed to be given full consideration.
