Assistant Professor in Mathematical Biology

Position # 24804

 

The Departments of Mathematics and Biological Sciences invite applications for a full-time tenure-track joint position at the Assistant Professor level, commencing 1 July 2018, or on a date mutually agreed upon. The Departments seeks an emerging scholar with a commitment to excellence in teaching and research.  Outstanding candidates in any area of mathematical biology will be considered. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. and post-doctoral experience or other distinguishing attributes in Mathematics or Biological Sciences. Duties will include meaningful contributions to the research, teaching and service activities of both Departments. The successful candidate will have a track record of high quality scholarly research that intersects Mathematics and Biological Sciences, and has resulted in peer-assessed publications; will either have, or demonstrate the potential to establish, an independent, innovative, scholarly, externally fundable research program; will have demonstrated strength in or strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions; and will exhibit evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative environment. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department of Mathematics currently has 23 full time tenured and tenure track faculty members, 2 half time tenured faculty members and 6 Instructors, and offers a full range of  undergraduate and graduate programs in mathematics and its applications. The Department of Mathematics has a well-established and equipped research facility, including computers, software and IT support, and is supported by strong research links with other units at the  University of Manitoba including the Departments of Computer Science, Physics and Astronomy, and Statistics. The Department of Biological Sciences currently has 31 full time tenured and tenure track faculty members and 7 Instructors, and offers a full range of both undergraduate and graduate programs in molecular biology, evolution, development, systematics, ecology and behavior, pathology, toxicology, and physiology. The Department of Biological Sciences has a well-established and equipped research facility, including microscopy and plant growth facilities, and is supported by strong research links with other University of Manitoba departments including Microbiology, Chemistry, and Plant Sciences.
