Claremont McKenna College (CMC) invites applications for the position of founding Director of its new Quantitative and Computing Lab (QCL) to begin on July 1, 2018. The Directorship of the QCL will be a full-time staff position, reporting to the Dean of the Faculty. Preference will be given to candidates holding an advanced degree in Mathematical Sciences, broadly defined. The ideal candidate will have broad familiarity with mathematics, statistics and scientific computing, as well as possess teaching, research and administrative experience.

The QCL will serve as the transdisciplinary campus hub and comprehensive support center for students seeking assistance with a broad spectrum of quantitative issues, including mathematics, computation, statistics, programming, and data analysis. In addition to the Director, its staff will include student fellows and possibly advanced consultants with joint appointments in one of the academic departments. The center will provide regular tutoring and consulting services to students across the quantitative curriculum, as well as training workshops on a variety of quantitative topics of interest to students and faculty, including software training workshops and thematic study groups. The QCL Director’s obligations will include developing the full range of QCL activities, overseeing its day-to-day operation, as well as hiring, training and supervising student tutors and advanced consultants. The QCL Director will report to the CMC Dean of the Faculty and work in close cooperation with a faculty advisory board.
