Position Description:    

The School of Mathematics at the University of Birmingham is keen to develop its research strength in Geometry and Mathematical Physics. Following the appointment of Professor M. Mazzocco, the School is now seeking to appoint an active and committed researcher in Geometry and/or Integrable Systems.

The School of Mathematics has a vibrant community of researchers who are committed in supporting each other in the delivery of outstanding research. It consists of several research groups, in particular the newly established group in Geometry and Mathematical Physics, that consists of one professor, two research assistants and one PhD student (due to start in the summer).

The successful candidate should hold a PhD, or equivalent, in Mathematics or a related subject and should have a track record of (or demonstrable potential for) outstanding research. Candidates for the Lectureship should demonstrate the potential to attract external funding, candidates for the Senior Lectureship should demonstrate experience in attracting external funding.

Main Duties and Responsibilities: To create and disseminate knowledge through initiating and conducting significant original research in Geometry or Integrable Systems and through developing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as appropriate to the disciplinary area. In addition, to contributing to the school through management/leadership, and enterprise activities, as appropriate.

Skills and Knowledge: The ideal candidate will collaborate effectively in a team atmosphere, will have an intellectually challenging research agenda in any area of geometry or integrable systems and a commitment to innovative research-led teaching.
