The School of Mathematics is seeking to appoint to the Fielden Chair in Pure Mathematics, which has become vacant upon the retirement of Professor Alex Wilkie FRS.

We are one of the largest mathematics schools/departments in the UK, and pride ourselves on providing a friendly, supportive and collegial environment to foster world-class research and teaching. The Fielden Chair is the senior professorial position in Pure Mathematics; previous holders include Louis J. Mordell, Max Newman, Frank Adams, Ian Macdonald, Norman Blackburn and Mark Pollicott.

The successful applicant will have a distinguished track record of research in one or more areas of Pure Mathematics (broadly defined, including Mathematical Logic). He or she will play a leading role in the life of the School, by providing inspiring leadership in research, and also through appropriate teaching and service activities.

Salary is by negotiation, with scope to fully recognise applicants of the very highest standing. The post is usually full-time, but a part-time appointment may be considered.
