Position Description:    

The Department of Mathematics and Actuarial Science at Millikin University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics to begin on August 1, 2019. The initial appointment is expected to be at the rank of Assistant Professor, though appointment at a higher rank commensurate with experience is possible.  The successful candidate for this position will take a leading role in the new computer science major that commences Fall 2019. 

A Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related discipline conferred before August 2019 is required. Applicants with specialties in applied or computational mathematics who have extensive experience in computer programming are especially desired, but applicants with strong teaching credentials from any field of mathematics with programming experience are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching mathematics and computer science is required. The successful applicant must maintain a program of active scholarship and supervise research projects by undergraduate students. Duties include a 12-hour teaching load per semester, advising students, and committee responsibilities.  Course load may include introductory programming, operating systems, computer organization and architecture, parallel and distributed processing, and advanced courses in computer science as well as courses throughout the undergraduate mathematics curriculum.

Millikin University is a private, comprehensive institution serving approximately 2,100 undergraduate, graduate, full-time and part-time students who study in four colleges/schools: Arts and Sciences, Business, Fine Arts and Professional Studies.
