*** this position has been closed, and no new applications will be accepted. ***

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Lebanon Valley College invites applications for a tenure-track position that supports our actuarial science program, beginning August 2019. The teaching load is two courses per semester for the first year and three courses per semester after that.

LVC has successful major programs in mathematics, actuarial science, analytical finance, and computer & data science, so we have the opportunity to teach a remarkable variety of classes. Working in those rapidly changing fields at a small school encourages constant change and allows us to continually experiment with new ideas. We therefore seek a colleague who is flexible, intellectually omnivorous, and eager to engage in varied roles.

Our new faculty member will help us develop an actuarial research program. S/he will join us in teaching department and service courses and share our commitment to helping our students achieve their goals by working with them inside and outside the classroom. S/he will also work with us to serve the department and broader campus.

LVC has had a successful actuarial program for more than 50 years, and we are proud of that success. For example, over the last three years our seniors have passed an average of three actuarial exams each. For more information about us and the position, see this department page.

To apply, please submit a cover letter that briefly addresses the following two questions:

  • What aspects of this job are most attractive to you? (i.e., talk about us)
  • How would you help strengthen our program? (i.e., talk about you)

Also submit a CV, teaching statement, research statement, and three (or more) letters of reference, two of which address teaching. All documents should be submitted via MathJobs.org. We’ll begin reading applications November 26 and the position will remain open until filled.
