Summary: Eastern Oregon University invites applications for an Instructor of Mathematics to serve program needs in teaching math and statistics courses. This is a 9-month, fixed-term position.

The program in mathematics has three primary objectives: • To provide a major in mathematics that develops the attitude of mind and analytical skills required for effective use and understanding of mathematics. • To provide a major which prepares students for a variety of career choices, including graduate study, industrial and business careers, and secondary school teaching. Within teaching, more generally, to prepare highly qualified teachers of mathematics for elementary, middle and secondary schools. • To provide the necessary mathematical and statistical support courses for students in other disciplines, including computer science, physical and biological sciences, social science, business and economics, and health.

The position will begin January 7, 2019. (Will teach two terms this academic year.)

Responsibilities: The teaching assignment will consist of three to four courses per term over two terms of the academic year. Courses to be taught may include developmental courses in basic algebra, courses in college algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and differential equations, as well as introductory statistics.

This is a fixed-term, nine-month faculty appointment at the Instructor rank with a teaching load of approximately 45 quarter credits per year (typically 3 to 4 courses per term).

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a Master’s or Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related area. Candidates nearing completion of their doctorate (ABD) may be considered.

Demonstrated successful experience teaching undergraduate-level university mathematics classes.

Valid work authorization documents are required.

Must Satisfactorily complete a Background check

Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with experience teaching introductory statistics will be given particular consideration as will candidates with a demonstrated success in working with first-generation and/or under-prepared students.
