University of Michigan – Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Michigan invites applications for a Lecturer III in Mathematics to begin September, 2019.  This is a university-year appointment.  This is not a tenure-track position but may be renewed.  The initial contract is for three years.  Criteria for selection and for renewal are excellence in classroom teaching; demonstrated administrative skills equal to managing coordinated courses with large numbers of sections and instructors; mentoring skills to develop new instructors; and the ability to work both within the existing course structure and productively with faculty and staff administering the program in which the courses run.   Interest and activity in pedagogical research is encouraged but not essential for reappointment.  The successful candidate is likely to have both a doctorate or equivalent credentials Mathematics and substantial experience in teaching mathematics at the collegiate level.  Please submit a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy and experience, evidence of teaching excellence and course administrative skills, and letters from at least three references.  Application materials should preferably be submitted electronically through the AMS website  Alternatively, applications may be sent to: Lecturer Evaluation and Hiring Committee, University of Michigan, Department of Mathematics, 2074 East Hall, 530 Church Street, Ann Arbor, MI, 48109-1043.  Applications are considered on a continuing basis but candidates are urged to apply by December 15, 2018.  Inquiries may be made by e-mail to  More detailed information regarding the Department may be found on our website:  Women and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.  The University of Michigan is supportive of the needs of dual career couples and is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
