Tenure Track Faculty Position in Statistics, Mathematics, or Actuarial Science: The Department of Mathematics and Economics at Emporia State University seeks to fill one nine-month, tenure track position beginning August 2019. Responsibilities: The teaching load in the department is 12 hours per semester. In addition to teaching face-to-face courses on the ESU campus, candidates will be expected to teach some online graduate courses; prior experience in this area is not required. Although not guaranteed, teaching in the summer is optional, frequently available, and typically online. An appropriate amount of service to the campus, community and profession is also expected. Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Statistics (preferred), Mathematics, or Actuarial Science is required by the time of appointment. Candidates must have the skills necessary to be an excellent teacher and have a strong commitment to continuing scholarly activity. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background working with multivariate statistics, big data, or sampling. Cross-disciplinary teaching ability in the department’s areas is a definite plus, although not required. Salary is expected to be commensurate with qualifications. About us: Emporia State University is a comprehensive regional public institution in the beautiful Flint Hills region in the state of Kansas. We have an enrollment of approximately 6000 students. The university began as a Teacher’s College and still has a strong tradition of educating teachers. The department has a strong record of innovative teaching including national recognition for our outreach programs that seek to encourage underrepresented groups to study in STEM areas. We also have thriving online Master of Science degree programs in mathematics and informatics that serve students worldwide. In addition to the graduate program, the department currently has undergraduate majors in mathematics, mathematics education, and economics; most of the undergraduate courses for these majors and the university’s General Education Program are offered on the ESU campus.
