Slippery Rock University invites applications for a highly motivated full-time tenure-track faculty member in actuarial science in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience. Slippery Rock University’s actuarial science program has been active for over 35 years and has a current enrollment of over fifty students. Our program provides the coursework for all seven preliminary examinations and VEE credit in all three areas. Most currently active students pass an average of three exams prior to graduation. In addition to actuarial science, the department offers several other concentrations for undergraduates in statistics, secondary education, and multiple interdisciplinary fields. We also offer an award-winning graduate program in data analytics.

A PhD in actuarial science, statistics, mathematics, or other related actuarial science field prior to employment is required. Applicants are expected either to be a credentialed actuary or to demonstrate significant progress toward credentialing as an Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuary Society. Preference will be given to applicants who have an established research record in actuarial science. Prior college-level teaching experience, evidence of a scholarly agenda, and experience conducting faculty-student research are also preferred. Exceptional qualities include experience in, or willingness to learn, non-traditional, active learning pedagogies, and the use of modern pedagogical delivery systems.

The teaching load is twelve credits per semester of undergraduate courses or nine credits per semester of graduate courses. Faculty will be expected to maintain a scholarly agenda. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence in teaching, service, and scholarly growth, and be able to teach a variety of courses ranging from service courses to advanced actuarial science and related courses. Candidates must have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work collaboratively. Exemplary service to the university that extends beyond the classroom is also expected. A commitment to the education of diverse populations and successful performance in an on-campus interview, including teaching demonstration, are required.
