Position Description:    

School of Economic Mathematics (SEM) at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE), Chengdu, China, invites applications for several faculty positions to the fall term of 2019, with a start date of August 15, 2019. Candidates will be considered for the Assistant, Associate, Full Professor (and University Chair Professor) rank, either tenure-track or tenured, depending upon their experience and qualifications. We seek candidates dedicated to our mission and commitment to excellence in both teaching and research. Preference will be given to applicants whose research interests are in the spectrum of the following areas: 
  • All areas in mathematical finance and economics; 
  • Numerical analysis and scientific computing;
  • Differential equations and their applications; 
  • Stochastic control and optimization; 
  • Operations research; 
  • Game theory; 
  • Probability
However, candidates whose research interests complement the strengths of the department’s current faculty will be also considered. The expertise of current faculty members is represented by Algebra, Combinatorics, Number Theory, Operator Theory and Functional Analysis, Statistics and Applied Econometrics etc. 

Applicants need to have a Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field of application, and for the Ph.D. candidate, certificate of a doctoral degree is required at the time of appointment. Applicants need to demonstrate evidence of outstanding accomplishments and promise in both research and teaching, and candidates for senior positions must have an established strong record of research and leadership in their research areas. In addition to developing external funding to support research endeavors, candidates will be expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels, up to three courses each annual year, and the instruction language can be either Chinese or English; service to the University, School/Department and professional organizations are also expected. 

Salary and start-up fund will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and the University also provides generous financial awards for both teaching and research. A typical annual income of a tenured faculty is about 300K-500K RMB (approximately 43K-72K USD). School of Economic Mathematics currently has more than 60 faculty members. They form several integrated research groups in applied mathematics and financial mathematics, with strength in scientific computing and numerical analysis, partial differential equations and stochastic control and optimization. SEM encourages and maintains a long and well-recorded tradition of interdisciplinary collaboration, and scientific research of its faculties has received broad recognition by top academic journals, and national and state fund regencies. SEM offers programs for Bachelor (mathematics, mathematical finance, and mathematical economics), Master (mathematics, mathematical finance, and management & operations research) and Ph.D. (mathematical finance). Currently, the school has an enrollment of more than 600 undergraduates and 120 full-time graduate students (about 80 masters and 40 PhDs). Each of our programs is dedicated to mathematical education of the highest quality at all levels and mathematical research that improves our society and nature.

Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) is a prestigious national research university in Chengdu, Sichuan province, China. The university is under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education and its business school is ranked among the top 3 in China for having a very strong faculty and a good reputation in the industry. SWUFE is one of the best and largest universities in finance and economics in China, with about 15,000 undergraduates, 6,500 graduate students, and 1,900+ full-time faculty members.
