The Department of Mathematics, University at Buffalo, State University of New York, is in an exciting period of growth and renewal. Part of the agenda is to improve the quality and consistency of our calculus instruction, which serves almost 7000 students each year, and we are seeking a calculus coordinator to lead this initiative. The position will have a twelve-­month appointment at the clinical assistant professor level. This is a three-­year appointment with potential for renewal and promotion. Teaching load is negotiable and salary and benefits are competitive. The successful candidate for the position will have the opportunity to work with mathematics faculty and graduate students to design calculus courses relevant to our clientele, focused on student success and employing innovative classroom teaching. The coordinator will work closely with the department chair, faculty, graduate students, and the coordinator of the campus Undergraduate Learning Center to improve all aspects of our calculus instruction, including the training of our graduate student teachers. The coordinator will work with our online instruction coordinator to ensure consistency and quality of all our calculus offerings. A Ph.D. in mathematics or related field is required. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in curriculum development, including in-­class active learning techniques. The coordinator will oversee all calculus instruction in the department. Duties may include: - Coordinate placement for calculus courses.

- Maintain and revise syllabi for these courses.

- Generate, maintain and distribute supporting documentation for first time calculus instructors, teaching assistants and graders.

- Communicate regularly with calculus instructors to gather feedback on course pace and content, materials, and teaching effectiveness. Disseminate information related to calculus courses and answer questions.

- Develop and implement an evaluation scheme to measure teaching effectiveness, student retention, and the impact of programmatic changes in calculus courses. Identify course content or processes that need improvement.

- Lead efforts to improve calculus courses by evaluating, promoting and implementing new teaching techniques, materials and technologies.

- Coordinate the creation, administration, and grading of final exams in calculus courses. Assure that these courses meet consistent learning outcomes and grading objectives.

- Assist with improving training for graduate student teaching assistants and new instructor. Candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a description of their teaching experience, three or more letters of reference and any supplemental materials they consider releveant.
