Position Description:    

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Oakland University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Mathematics in the area of continuous mathematics, beginning Fall Semester 2019. Responsibilities of this position include teaching, research, contribution to the Department’s Ph.D. program in applied mathematics, and other department, university and professional service. A typical faculty teaching load is two courses per semester. Candidates for this position must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics (or its requirements completed) by August 31, 2019.

The primary selection criteria will be an applicant’s potential for quality research and effective teaching in support of the Department’s instructional responsibilities including all levels of undergraduate mathematics as well as graduate mathematics. Amongst applicants who are found highly qualified with respect to these criteria, preference will be given to those in continuous mathematics and those with strong research collaboration with members of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, including areas of PDEs, Numerical Analysis, and Dynamical Systems. Candidates must demonstrate experience with or a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 23 full-time faculty members, who have research strengths in pure and applied mathematics and statistics. The Department offers baccalaureate degrees in mathematics, statistics, and actuarial science; Master’s degrees in mathematics, industrial and applied mathematics, and applied statistics; and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematical Sciences with concentrations in the three different areas of continuous mathematics, discrete mathematics and statistics. In addition, the Department teaches a full range of service courses to students in the sciences, engineering, business and education programs.
