The School of Mathematics and Physics is a School within the Faculty of Science at The University of Queensland. The Discipline of Mathematics is located in the School of Mathematics and Physics. It is the leading provider of tertiary mathematics education in Queensland. Undergraduate programs offered are BMath, BSc, BA (each with an Honours year) and BAdvSci; Coursework degrees (MSc, MFinMath, MDataSc) and research degrees (MPhil and PhD) are offered at postgraduate level.

The Discipline is internationally recognised for its research excellence and hosts a number of first class research centres. Research is carried out at the cutting edge across a broad spectrum of areas in Mathematics and Statistics.

The position is based at the St Lucia campus of The University of Queensland, one of the most spacious and attractive university campuses in Australia. The campus is centrally located near major public transport routes.

The role: We are recruiting a full-time postdoctoral fellow to work on an Australian Research Council funded project that will involve the development, derivation and simulation of particle-based and continuum models for actomyosin dynamics in the cell cortex.

The project (CI: Dietmar Oelz, UQ) will involve collaboration with Alex Mogilner (NYU-Courant Institute). The applicant will have a good background in Applied Mathematics, and a strong interest in Biology and Cell Biology. The postdoctoral fellow will be hosted at The University of Queensland (UQ, Brisbane, Australia).

The person: Applicants should possess a PhD in the area of Mathematics/Physics/Engineering with a specialisation in Applied Mathematics and evidence of contribution to research, including publication of research in peer-reviewed journals.  Expert knowledge in the area of Mathematical Biology is desirable.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Remuneration: This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for two years at Academic Research Level A. The remuneration package will be in the range AUD$83,295 - $89,285 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range AUD$97,456 - $104,464 p.a.).
