Director of Actuarial Science Program

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Wright State University is seeking a dynamic and entrepreneurial candidate to hire as an Instructor or Lecturer to serve as the Actuarial Science Program director starting Fall 2019.  The department offers an undergraduate major in Statistics, has a Master’s program in Applied Statistics with a biostatistics track, is a major participating unit in an Interdisciplinary Applied Science and Mathematics PhD program, and houses the Statistical Consulting Center.  The Actuarial Science concentration was established 4 years ago.  The program has a solid foundation, high enrollment, and strong institutional support.  The director will assume the responsibility for leveraging these strengths to continue the growth of the Actuarial Science concentration.

In addition to teaching courses in the department the ideal candidate will support and promote activities that enhance the stature of the Actuarial Science program at Wright State University. These activities would include, but not be limited to: course development to improve the concentration’s offerings, serving as the faculty advisor for students in the Actuarial Science program, the creation of an Actuarial Science Club, engaging in recruiting activities, developing and managing a scholarship fund to support students who pass their Society of Actuaries exams.

The minimum requirements for appointment at the Instructor level are:

A Master of Science degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or related field (anticipated completion of all requirements by August, 2019), successful passage of at least two preliminary actuarial science examinations (such as Exams P, Exam FM or Exam MFE/IFM or the equivalent),  at least one year of teaching experience at the university level or equivalent.

The minimum requirements for appointment at the Lecturer level are:

A PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, or related field and successful passage of at least two preliminary actuarial science examinations such as Exams P, Exam FM or Exam MFE/IFM or the equivalent. At least 3 years of teaching experience at the university level or equivalent.

Or 

A Master of Science degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or related field (anticipated completion of all requirements by August 2019) and an actuarial credential from any of the major professional actuarial societies, such as ASA, ACAS, CERA, or FSA. At least 3 years of teaching experience at the university level or equivalent.

For both ranks preference will be given to candidates with at least two years of industry experience.
