ACADEMIC STAFF POSITION: One or more, one-year Lecturer in Mathematics. 

NATURE OF POSITION: This will be a full-time position for the entire 2019-2020 academic year pending departmental needs, budgetary funding, and interest of the applicant. 

DUTIES: The main duty will be to teach up to 15 hours of coursework per semester in lower division courses in mathematics and elementary statistics. Total workload to be negotiated as noted above. The use of laptops and web-based technology as appropriate to enhance student learning is also expected.


  • An earned doctorate in mathematics by August 2019 is preferred. Master’s degree in mathematics or a related field required.
  • Evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching.
  • Interest in classroom use of laptops and web-based technology.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.


The Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science Department has 26 full-time members, a strong tradition of excellence in teaching, and a growing program of scholarship and research in mathematics, computer science, statistics, and related areas. The department received the 2008 University of Wisconsin System Regents Teaching Excellence Award for Academic Departments and Programs. The department is committed to student-centered and technology-enhanced instruction. Technology usage includes students working on laptops in the classroom, web enhancements (e.g., course management and on-line homework systems), and interactive distance education courses. Faculty members involve undergraduate students in research and the department has hosted an NSF-sponsored REU site in Mathematics in three previous summers.


The department offers all the core courses necessary for the Applied Mathematics and Computer Science(~185 students) and Computer Science(~190 students) programs as well as coursework supporting five Engineering programs (~365 students). The department also provides service courses (in all three disciplines: statistics, mathematics, and computer science) for the numerous programs within the university. The department has recently launched a Master's Degree in Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

Faculty use the university’s online course delivery system and must be available for online interactions and/or alternate time frames for teaching. Menomonie, Wisconsin, is a town of 16,000 located in the beautiful Chippewa River Valley, 25 miles west of Eau Claire and 60 miles east of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.
