The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Sam Houston State University seeks applications for two (2) Visiting Assistant Professor positions for the 2019 – 2020 academic year. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or closely related field, a strong commitment to quality teaching, and be active in research. The position carries a standard teaching load of 18 credit hours per year, made up of 3 and 4 credit hour courses. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Applicants from all areas of mathematics are encouraged to apply. Sam Houston State University is a comprehensive public institution of higher education located in historic Huntsville, 60 miles north of Houston in the Piney Woods region of East Texas. The university has an enrollment of approximately 20,000. SHSU is classified as a “Doctoral Research University” by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education. In each of the last six years, the Chronicle of Higher Education has named the university a “Great College to Work For.” The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 30 tenured or tenure track faculty positions in mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics. The BA, BS, MA, & MS degrees are offered in Mathematics. In addition, the MA degree is offered in Mathematics Education. The MS degree is offered in Statistics, along with Statistics minors at both the undergraduate & graduate levels. The Department is actively involved in undergraduate research.
