Full-time, permanent position.

The opportunity

The Department of Mathematics invites applications for a Lecturer in Mathematics. The position is open to any researcher in Pure or Applied Mathematics with connections to Computer Science. The successful candidate's research expertise should complement and strengthen the existing research areas in the department with connections to Computer Science, including Algebra, Cryptography, Discrete Mathematics, Geometry, Logic, Number Theory.

About the role

The successful applicant will be expected to:
  • perform high-quality Mathematics teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD level, including service teaching for the School of Computer Science, and also in specialist graduate level courses
  • establish their own research portfolio that attracts external funding and graduate students
  • contribute to creating an environment which is safe, inclusive and accepting of diversity and difference
  • perform administrative service roles for the Department of Mathematics.
Skills and experience

Our ideal candidate will:
  • hold a PhD in Mathematics or Computer Science or closely related discipline
  • have a track record of publications in refereed journals and/or conference proceedings
  • have experience in teaching and/or communicating mathematics, preferably with teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Have evidence of active commitment to ensuring a high-quality learning experience for a diverse student body
  • have experience with organising research, teaching or outreach events. Ideally they will have had success in attracting external funding for research or teaching or equity initiatives.
