Assistant or Associate Professor for the program "Mathematics for Information Technologies"

We are seeking an advanced assistant professor, or an associate professor, to take duties in our study program Mathematics for Information Technologies. The candidate is expected to take responsibility for the program development in the near future. Applications are invited from candidates with active research in algebra, combinatorics, logic or theoretical computer science, with a strong interest in computation or applications. The starting date is negotiable within the year 2020. We offer a renewable three years contract, with a possibility of tenure. The starting salary range is 50000-65000 CZK (currently about 2000-2500 EUR), depending on the experience of the candidate.

The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University is leading institution in mathematics in Czechia, with highly motivated and well educated students in our mathematics programs. The School of Mathematics has about 110 academic positions, covering most of the major areas of mathematics.
The Department of Algebra offers an open minded international environment, with outstanding conditions for independent research. We currently have about 15 permanent and 10 postdoctoral positions, with over a quarter of these positions held by international researchers. The department hosts a project funded by the European Research Council on Symmetry in Computational Complexity.
The study program Mathematics for Information Technologies enrolls about 10-15 students each year. The two main directions of the program is information security and computer geometry.

  • academic research
  • teaching load 6-8 hours per week, advising theses
  • in the near future, curriculum development and administrative duties within the program


  • PhD in mathematics or theoretical computer science, at least one postdoctoral position after receiving PhD
  • research activity in pure or applied mathematics or computer science
  • strong interest in teaching
  • basic academic management skills
  • active knowledge of the Czech language is not necessary, but will be required for any contract extension
